Education
During his time at the Main Pedagogical Institute, Mendeleev was already showing promise. He began publishing original research papers, although he often had to work from bed since he was suffering from tuberculosis. He later graduated at the top of his class, although his uncontrollable temper made him unpopular among other students and teachers.
When he was 21, he landed a teaching job in Crimea, which is apart of Ukraine. However, he returned to St. Petersburg shortly after. He began studying for a master's degree at the University of St. Petersburg, which he received a year later.
After receiving his degree, Mendeleev continued teaching and doing chemistry. He later received an award to travel to Western Europe to pursue a career in chemical research.
